Urban Empathy at Eurocities 2013 Ghent, Smart Citizens Conference

EUROCITIES 2013 Ghent, the annual conference, took place on 27 November 2013. At the conference, city representatives, politicians and stakeholders debated the role of smart citizens in creating smart cities, and explore how cities can embrace and unleash the smart capacity of their citizens. .

Dan Hill, CEO of communications research centre Fabrica, reflected on this in his keynote speech, which was on 28 November, followed by a panel of mayors who discussed projects from their cities designed to engage smart citizens.

Urban Empathy was invited to present the project activities and objectives within the popular speednetworking sessions, facilitating the opportunity to cities and stakeholders to exchange experiences on the territorial approach of urban sustainability at European level. These sessions were part of a busy agenda in Ghent, that started with the annual EUROCITIES awards ceremony and a series of workshops that gave participants the chance to visit some of Ghent’s smart citizens initiatives. There were plenty of opportunities to network too, both informally and at the various working sessions.
